When using a helicopter to rescue someone who has been in the water for some time,
appropriate retrieval methods prevent cardiac problems associated with a sudden release of a hydrostatic squeeze.
It is preferable to raise the casualty horizontally to minimize the effect of water pressure.
Ruth Lee Ltd worked with the rescue experts at Bristow Helicopters (UK) to make changes to the popular Man Overboard model,
allowing it to perform more accurately in a helicopter winch scenario.
Features include:
Has lighter legs than the standard Man Overboard model, meaning the legs float more readily when fitting the harness/strops in water.
The manikin will sit in a stable W position while winched to the helicopter.
Compatible with standard and Hypothermic Lifting straps.
Buckle clips on the inside knees and ankles allow for the option of keeping legs together.
The tough nylon mesh carcass allows the water to penetrate quickly, allowing the legs to drop beneath the surface,
leaving only the head and shoulders visible, if desired.
Dry weight 40Kg (Adult) increases to approximately 65Kg retrieval weight from water.
Floats horizontally, vertically, or at 45 degrees to simulate a live person or dead body achieved by redistributing foam pieces within the overalls in a matter of seconds.
Bright orange overalls and SOLAS reflective tape on the head make the manikin highly visible in open water.
Strong webbing loop at the back allows easy handling, storage, and suspension for drying.
The soft feet allow rapid drainage to prevent too much water in the helicopter.
Comes with overalls and soft feet, easily replaced if damaged.
Lifting Sling NOT included

TechNOTE - Ruth Lee Training Manikin Coveralls
Ruth Lee is the only manikin manufacturer that provides clothing with their products. All Ruth Lee Rescue Training Manikins include coveralls.
Manikins 44 lbs and up also include lug sole boots. None is found on Bullex products, and Simulaids only adds thin gym shorts.
While the strength-reinforced coveralls protect the manikin, they are NOT deemed Wear-proof.
Their specific design is to provide a replaceable, washable layer that helps protect the manikin.
The coveralls are designed to wear and must be replaced to protect the manikin carcass.
The use of the manikins should mimic that of dragging a similarly dressed victim.
The wear resistance of the coveralls should be considered on par with clothing usually worn by the victims.
The included coveralls protect the manikin when used during rescue training.
The coveralls are not designed to endure the rigors of firefighter drags or physical agility training.
The coveralls and boots should be seen as disposable items and replaced when showing signs of wear or damage
to protect the main body of the manikin. Additional clothing is suggested for use in these activities (Even the Combat Challenge dresses their manikins in turnout Gear for this competition).
Treat the coveralls as clothing. They are NOT wear-proof. Protect your investment.
